Temptation
How “Temptation” came to be just proves when you put two empaths in a room, what can really ensue. Leading up to that session with Damon, I had been going back-and-forth in my mind about a certain individual. It was the classic “should I/shouldn’t I” dance. Both scenario outcomes had their own appeal, which made writing about the best option so that I could channel it and move on. Quite, albeit, cliche.
But alas! I finally knew what I felt like to write a song about someone haha. I could hear Taylor’s voice saying “welcome to my world!”
I go back to what I said about putting two empaths in a room and what can truly come out of it. As soon as I sat down, and we began listening to the track to try to catch some sort of direction conceptually, Damon said something like “I feel like the word ‘temptation’ on this one.” As a good Dream Team co-captain would, he just turned the key for the channeling flood gates to open.
I had a good friend of mine on FaceTime while I was writing the song, which she knew about the situation, so her energy and knowledge of the subject also added to the creative nonsense that was propelling the words to a very honest and poetic deliverable state.
“Temptation” is essentially the modern day version of the Phantom of the Opera dynamic. Do I follow the voice haunting me or do I follow the voice that will keep me feeling “safe”.
I felt some sort of weight lifted while writing and channeling this. Although sometimes throughout the performance of the song, I will tap back into the muscle memory of it. But, that only legitimizes the physical and emotional delivery of everything.
